Huntsman Knife CS2: model, tier and animations
The Huntsman Knife is a fixed-blade tanto modelled on the MTech USA Xtreme, with a partially serrated spine and one broad flat face. There is no folding mechanism here, and the model runs the default knife animation set rather than a bespoke inspect, the same animations you get on the Gut Knife. Next to a Butterfly Knife or a Falchion Knife you are therefore paying for the blade and the paint rather than for the flourish, which is much of why the Huntsman sits at the accessible end of its tier. The tier itself is the one every knife shares: gold star, a rare special item ranked above Covert, reachable through the star slot of a case or through a trade-up, never as an ordinary weapon drop.
Where each Huntsman finish came from
Every finish on this model belongs to a source pool, and knowing which pool a finish came from tells you both how it looks and how thin its supply is.
- The original pool from the Huntsman Weapon Case: the camo and steel family of Boreal Forest, Forest DDPAT, Safari Mesh, Urban Masked, Scorched, Stained, Night and Blue Steel, alongside Crimson Web, Case Hardened, Fade and Slaughter. Vanilla belongs here as well, and it is the odd one out: no paint kit at all, so no float and no exterior, listed as Not Painted.
- The Chroma pool from the Spectrum Case and the Spectrum 2 Case: Doppler, Marble Fade, Tiger Tooth, Ultraviolet, Damascus Steel and Rust Coat. Rust Coat is worth flagging, because on this model it arrived with the Chroma group rather than with the original case.
- The Gamma pool from the Operation Riptide Case and the Dreams & Nightmares Case: Gamma Doppler, Lore, Autotronic, Freehand, Bright Water and Black Laminate.
Phases set the ceiling
Doppler and Gamma Doppler are families rather than single finishes. A phase is assigned when the item is created and never changes after that. Doppler runs Phase 1 to Phase 4 plus Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl; Gamma Doppler runs Phase 1 to Phase 4 plus Emerald. The families stay separate, so Emerald is always a Gamma Doppler phase and never a Doppler one, which is the detail people misread most often when they skim listings. In practice phases can create a large price difference between otherwise identical copies: the gem phases sit at the top of the Huntsman range while the numbered phases cluster well below them. The phase filter above the listings narrows the grid to the one you are after.
Where pattern and wear actually show
On a tanto the visible surface is one large flat, and that changes what you look for. Case Hardened rolls a pattern index that decides how much blue lands on that flat and how much of it you see during an inspect, which is the same seed hunting that drives blue gem prices across the knife market. Fade rolls a percentage of the gradient along the blade. Crimson Web rolls both the position and the density of the webs, and a copy with webs clustered near the tip is a different item from one with webs scattered down the spine even at an identical float. Wear then behaves differently by finish: on the camo finishes scratches show early and the exterior drives most of the price difference, while the candy coats of Doppler, Gamma Doppler and Tiger Tooth mask wear well enough.
How a Huntsman reaches the market
Only one of the routes below lets you pick what you get.
- The star slot of one of the cases above. That slot is shared with the Bowie Knife, the Butterfly Knife, the Falchion Knife and Shadow Daggers, so opening for a Huntsman in particular is the long way round.
- A trade-up contract built from Covert skins of a single collection, which can output a rare special item from that collection's knife pool.
- Buying the finish, phase and exterior you want from the listings above.
If the shape turns out not to suit you, the rest of the CS2 knife catalogue carries the same finishes on other models.

FAQ
Can I choose the exact float and phase when I buy?
Yes. Every listing shows its float value, and Doppler and Gamma Doppler listings show the phase as well, so you can narrow the grid before you look at a single item. That is the practical difference from opening cases, where both are random.
Is there a StatTrak version of the Huntsman Knife?
Yes, StatTrak exists across the Huntsman finishes, including the bare Vanilla blade. It counts your kills with that knife and does nothing else: the model, the animations and the finish are unchanged.
Does a Huntsman Knife give any advantage in a match?
No. Knife damage in CS2 does not depend on the model, and the Huntsman does not deploy faster than a default knife. It is a cosmetic item.
What is the cheapest way into a Huntsman Knife?
The camo finishes from the original case, Safari Mesh, Forest DDPAT, Boreal Forest and Urban Masked, sit at the bottom of the model's range, and they sit lower still in the worn exteriors where the pattern hides scratches. Sort the listings by price and start there.
How is a P2P purchase different from a bot site?
The item moves straight from the seller's inventory to yours instead of passing through a platform inventory. You connect a Steam Trade Link so the seller can send the item directly, and the payout is released after the trade becomes final.
